Charlie Munger passed away yesterday, just short of his 100th birthday. Charlie was one of the best investors to have roamed this planet in the past 100 years or so.
If you aren’t living under a rock, you will likely be bombarded by the outpouring of remembrance for this wonderful man. I am not going to add a lot of fresh bits to it, but just a few quick words.
Charlie was among the few people who had (a) the brains to command our respect and (b) the willingness to speak out, even at the cost of being undiplomatic at most times. This is a rare feat.
People who speak a lot of undiplomatic stuff mostly happen to be arseholes who think highly of themselves and don’t have the thinking to back up what they say. On the other hand, the ones who end up gaining enough wisdom and insight choose not to speak too freely, because they want to come across as diplomatic in public forums. Charlie didn’t care for how he came across and he let it rip. For that alone, he commands a special respect from me.
Here are a few youtube videos that might be worth your attention, in this regard:
Very few people stand up to the lyrics of this wonderful song from Muqaddar ka Sikandar:
रोते हुए आते हैं सब
रोते हुए आते हैं सब
हसता हुआ जो जाएगा
वो मुकद्दर का सिकंदर
वो मुकद्दर का सिकंदर
Everyone comes to this world crying, but those who go laughing, are the true conquerors of destiny.
I am sure Charlie rocked into next world laughing away, probably roasting a few along the way.
Keep on rocking, Charlie. Rest in Peace.
Om Shanti!
